Introduction

Players auctions are not new phenomena in the world of sports. However, in the game of cricket auctioning of players was first time used in Indian Premier League (IPL). In IPL, the bidding process was dynamic in nature. No fixed plan worked as franchises had to respond and realign their strategy after each bid by taking into account whether the bid went in their favor or not. It was a phenomenon which was probably not understood much by some franchises. In this paper, we formulate an integer programming model for the efficient bidding strategy for the franchises. This model has been implemented in spreadsheet which helps in taking bidding decisions in real time and overcome winners curse which is typically associated with normal bidding processes.
