Wilkie Collins was born in 1824 in England. The Evil Genius was written in 1886, towards the end of Collin's life, and it was arguably his most lucrative novel. The story is not in Collin's typical mystery genre. Instead it is a dramatic work that includes debates about marriage and sexuality. Collins' works include over 30 novels, in addition to short stories and plays. His best-known books are The Lady in White and The Moonstone. In 1851, Collins was introduced to Charles Dickens and the two men became lifelong friends.
